Section 4: Scoring
Lexel uses a combination of factors to determine the score of each word played:
- Longer words score more points.
- Rarely occurring letters score more points (e.g., "ZAP" scores more than "TEA").
- Use Bonus Tiles to multiply your score! Each Bonus Tile used in a word increases the multiplier.
- There's an extra point bonus for making a word that's the full size of the grid you are playing on. (For example, there's a 100 point bonus for making a 5-letter word on the "Small" board.)
- More points are scored the faster the tiles are appearing: so the last words you make are likely to score the most points! Note that in the second phase of the game, the timer is off, and points for words are significantly reduced.
- There's a large bonus for clearing the board of all tiles in the second phase of the game. In Cooperative games, this is only given if both players clear their board. In Head-to-Head games, the first player to clear their board receives an additional small bonus.
