Section 3.4: Searching Your Document Library

Indexing for Library Search

In the "Search" tab, Aji Reader provides the ability to search your entire PDF Library for a keyword or keywords:

To search, tap the search box and enter one or more search terms. As you type, the list of matching documents will dynamically update to reflect all of the documents which contain the keyword or keywords (or, like Document Searching, contain any word starting with the keyword):

...the display updates as your term becomes more specific.

Note that if you enter multiple terms (separated by spaces), only the documents which contain all of the terms will be displayed.

Just like in the "Browse" view, you can tap any entry in the list to read the corresponding document.

Indexing for Library Search (Back to Top)

In order to provide the Library Search functionality, Aji Reader must "index" all new documents that are added to your library. If your library is very large, or if you are adding large PDF documents, this can require quite a lot of processing and can take some time. If Aji Reader is currently working on indexing new documents, this will be indicated by a badge number on the "Search" tab:

Most PDF documents will complete indexing within 5 to 10 seconds; large documents such as reference guides, however, could take up to several minutes to index. Since indexing is a highly intensive process, the Aji Reader interface may be noticeably less responsive when indexing new documents.

When transferring new documents to Aji Reader, we strongly recommend keeping your device connected to power and allowing Aji Reader to index all new files before quitting the application, reading documents, or performing other activities. However, if you do wish to read documents while indexing, you will be able to do so (with reduced performance).

Aji Reader includes the ability to pause indexing. If you wish to pause indexing, select the "Search" tab and tap on the "Pause" button. This will allow the app to function at its normal performance level. You may resume indexing at any point by tapping on the "Resume" button.

Note also that Aji Reader must be running in order for new documents to be indexed. You may safely quit Aji Reader while indexing is in process; when you next start up, Aji Reader will continue the indexing process.

Indexing only needs to be performed once per new document; once complete, it provides lightning-fast search capability for your entire PDF Library.
