Section 4.4: Configuring the Gesture Engine

TouchTerm offers several parameters for configuring the Gesture Engine, allowing you to fine-tune the recognition parameters to your needs.

The following is a list of the Options available in the Global Options that control the Gesture Engine, along with brief descriptions. For more details, see the Help Topics for the specific Options:

  • Multi-Gesture Delay: Controls the maximum time allowed between chained gestures, e.g., for Double-Taps or Swipe combinations.
  • Multi-Tap Distance Threshold: Controls the amount of leeway for movement between taps in Double- and Triple-Tap gestures.
  • Tap-and-Hold Time: Controls the amount of time your finger must remain on the screen after a Tap to be considered a Tap-and-Hold.
  • Corner Sensitivity: Controls the "size" of the Hot Corners -- higher values mean a larger area of the screen will be considered as the corner.
  • Edge Sensitivity: Controls the "size" of the Hot Edges -- higher values mean a larger area of the screen will be considered as the edge.
  • Minimum Swipe Length: Controls the minimum distance required before a gesture is considered to be a Swipe.
  • Swipe Line Sensitivity: Controls the "straightness" required for a gesture to be considered a Swipe: for example, a high value allows gestures with some curve to still be considered as Swipes.
  • Swipe Slope Sensitivity: Controls how close a Swipe has to be to its "true" intended direction to be considered a Swipe. For example, a low value means that a left Swipe must be almost exactly horizontal; a high value means that a line with, say, 10-degree slope will still be considered close enough to horizontal to be a Swipe.
  • Gesture Fade Time: Controls the amount of time over which Gesture Feedback graphics are gradually faded out.
  • Ignore Duplicate Gestures: Controls whether distinct gestures (or combinations) received in rapid succession should be allowed or ignored. Turning this On (the default) usually reduces the frequency of "accidental" gestures.
  • Gesture Ignore Threshold: When Ignore Duplicate Gestures is on, this controls the delay time after a gesture during which successive duplicate gestures are ignored.
